A gunman in a mass shooting earlier this month that injured at least nine people can be seen opening fire before the suspect was shot and apprehended in recently released security camera footage.

In the footage, obtained by the Arizona Daily Star, the suspect, identified as 21-year-old David Leroy French, pulls a handgun and begins shooting as he runs backwards outside businesses in downtown Tucson at around 2 a.m. July 19. French and bystanders then can be seen running down the sidewalk.

According to Tucson police, officers responded to the scene and confronted French as he was fleeing. When French refused to drop his gun and surrender, an officer shot and wounded the suspect.

French was taken to the hospital following the shooting. No officers were injured in the incident.
