Video: Ariz. Police Shoot Woman Who Points Gun Inside Station

Arizona police released security and body camera footage of a frightening April incident in which a woman armed with a handgun was shot and wounded after entering a station and pointing her weapon at a civilian and officers.

The shooting happened at around 9:45 a.m. April 30 when a woman, later identified as Eva Garcia, walked into the lobby of the Scottsdale Police Department's McKellips Police Station, the department stated in a news release. In recently released footage, Garcia is seen pulling a handgun out of a backpack before pointing it at a police aide, who was sitting behind protective glass at the station's information window.

The aide retreated to a safe area and radioed for help. Garcia then moved to another nearby window and pointed her gun at a man sitting there.

Officers handling administrative duties at the station confronted Garcia and ordered her to drop her gun. Garcia pointed her gun at the officers, and a sergeant shot and wounded her.

The officers rushed to Garcia, securing her handgun and making sure the civilian was safe. Officers then began giving Garcia first aid until medics arrived.

The aide and the civilian were uninjured in the incident. The officers also were unharmed.

Garcia was rushed to the hospital, where she was treated for 12 days. After her release, she was taken into custody and faces several felony counts.

Detectives are trying to determine what led the woman's actions. The shooting is under investigation.
