Chicago Police Officer Injured while Helping Motorist

A Chicago police officer was assisting a motorist and providing traffic control when another vehicle struck the officer's cruiser, sending it into the stopped motorist.

A Chicago police was taken to the hospital following a crash while helping a motorist Sunday.

The crash happened just after 6 a.m. along the Interstate 94, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. A Chicago police officer was providing traffic control and parked behind a motorist needing assistance.

A driver in another vehicle traveling south lost control and slammed into a concrete barrier. The officer's parked cruiser was struck, sending the unit into the stopped motorist.

The officer was taken to the hospital, but no details were immediately known concerning the officer's condition or the nature of the injuries. No one else was injured in the incident.
