An injured California Highway Patrol officer was aided by a good Samaritan after a vehicle collided into back of a patrol car along the 10 Freeway in West Covina on Tuesday, Dec. 13.

Just before 2 p.m., the officer was conducting a traffic stop on the westbound shoulder of the freeway, near the Barranca Street exit, CHP spokesperson Officer Joseph Davila said in a video provide by OC Hawk. A Toyota Tacoma and a Toyota Sequoia west of the traffic stop collided with each other, with the Sequoia veering into the shoulder wall and crashing into the rear of the parked patrol car.

The patrol car, with the officer inside, was subsequently rammed into the back of the vehicle that had been pulled over for the traffic stop.

"A good Samaritan heard the crash at a nearby business, went over to the scene and used the officer's mic to notify dispatch of the crash," Davila said.

The officer was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries. The driver of the Sequoia was also taken to a hospital for minor injuries, and two other motorists were treated at the scene.

It was unclear what led to the two vehicles colliding, and neither alcohol nor drugs were believed to have factored into the crash, Davila said.
