An off-duty Houston police officer is in critical condition and "fighting for his life" after a collision with a train Wednesday.
The crash happened as Officer Vidal Lopez, 42, was crossing train tracks on his way to work in his personal vehicle, KPRC-TV reports. Lopez was taken to the hospital in critical condition following the collision.
Police Chief Troy Finner praised emergency crews for “outstanding job of getting our brother to the hospital.” The crash is under investigation.
Lopez and his wife are currently expecting a child.
