Dashcam: Wounded Ind. Police Officer Returns Fire in Violent Shootout with Stolen Car Suspect

An Indianapolis police officer continues to recover after he was struck four times, including one round into his ballistic vest, in an exchange of gunfire while confronting suspects in a stolen car.

Following the exchange of gunfire, the officer applied a tourniquet to his leg. According to Mirror Indy at the time, a mother and daughter came out to help the officer, applying towels and waiting for first responders to arrive.

“We (saw) shots, we ran outside to assist the officer," Tina Jordan told the news outlet at the time. "We didn’t even think about the other person that was shooting. He said he needed help, and we went outside to help him.”

The officer was rushed to the hospital, and he was released days later. He continues to recover from his injuries, according to WXIN.

The 19-year-old armed suspect was found unresponsive by police following the shooting. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died Aug. 22, nearly a month later.

The three other suspects were apprehended following the shooting.
