The NTOA Joins Coalition of Nation's Top Public Safety Organizations for the Collaborative Reform Initiative Technical Assistance Center (CRI-TAC)

April 3, 2018
The CRI-TAC will be built around the philosophy of providing quality, customized technical assistance by the field, for the field, and for the community.

Colorado Springs, Colo. (March 2018) - The National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA), along with eight of the nation's most influential specialized law enforcement leadership membership organizations, will bring together their collective experience, subject matter expertise and unmatched reach in the field to establish the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services' (COPS) Collaborative Reform Initiative Technical Assistance Center (CRI-TAC). Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the center at the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Division Midyear Conference to assist local law enforcement. A full transcript of his remarks can be found here.

The NTOA believes external support for law enforcement is most effective when it respects local control and accountability, while still delivering important, tailored resources to local law enforcement. The CRI-TAC will be built around the philosophy of providing quality, customized technical assistance by the field, for the field, and for the community.   The partner organizations and their subject matter experts stand ready to serve their peers. These leading law enforcement practitioners come from state, local, tribal and territorial agencies of all sizes and are skilled in providing training and technical assistance on all topics relating to community policing, crime reduction and public safety.   Partner organizations include:

  • IACP
  • International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST)
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy Associates (FBINAA)
  • National Association of Women Law Enforcement Executives (NAWLEE)
  • Fraternal Order of Police (FOP)
  • National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE)
  • Major City Chiefs Association (MCCA)
  • International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA)
The CRI-TAC will be informed by cutting edge innovation and evidence based and promising practices, which embrace a collaborative, supportive approach to serving law enforcement and the communities they protect. It will feature tailored, scalable solutions delivered by subject matter experts from the field, at no cost to the requesting agency. Services provided will include resource referral, web-based and/or in-person training, virtual mentoring, meeting facilitation and on-site consultation. Many topics will be addressed, including active shooter response, gun violence reduction and prevention, mass casualty response, officer safety and wellness, and modern police performance management (e.g. CompStat).
