WASHINGTON -- The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) has formally called on the White House to convene federal, state, and local law enforcement leaders to address ongoing challenges affecting public safety and policing operations.
The organization highlighted that periods of heightened tension place significant strain on law enforcement systems and underscore the need for professionalism, stability, and adherence to constitutional principles.
According to the IACP, effective public safety relies on comprehensive training, investigative integrity, adherence to the rule of law, and strong coordination among agencies at all levels. The group emphasized that responsible communication by officials during times of uncertainty is essential to de-escalate tensions, reinforce lawful processes, and maintain public trust.
The association stressed that policies should support lawful engagement, accountability, and operational effectiveness while preserving the ability of law enforcement agencies to protect communities. Officer safety, the IACP noted, is inseparable from community safety and must remain a priority in all public safety decision-making.
In its statement, the IACP reaffirmed commitment to constitutional protections, including safeguards against unlawful or unreasonable searches and seizures, noting that public confidence in policing depends on these rights being faithfully upheld.
To advance these objectives, the IACP urged the White House to use its convening authority “as soon as practicable” to bring together law enforcement leaders for policy-level discussions aimed at identifying a constructive path forward.
