A gunfight early this month with a suspect left an Oklahoma police officer with a wounded leg and gunpowder burns from bullets flying by his face.
The Oklahoma City Police Department released body camera footage of the fatal March 2 shooting, KFOR-TV reports. The incident happened as Officer Bryce Sheehan was responding to a disturbance call.
When Sheehan reached the scene, a shootout with a suspect broke out, and Sheehan was shot in the leg. The officer returned fire, and the suspect was struck multiple times.
The suspect tried to escape in Sheehan's police cruiser, but when that didn't work, he fled on foot. Police found him a short time later, lying in a residential backyard. He eventually died from his injuries.
After being shot, Sheehan was seen in the footage applying a tourniquet to his leg. He was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries.
