Video: Suspect Fires at Deputy Inside Cruiser During Traffic Stop

A Hernando County sheriff's deputy was forced to throw his cruiser into reverse to escape incoming gunfire after a suspect wanted in a battery investigation allegedly began shooting during a traffic stop.

When the deputy was getting ready to exited his cruiser during the stop, Monday jumped out of his vehicle and began shooting, the sheriff's office stated. The deputy quickly put the cruiser in reverse in an effort to avoid the gunfire, according to WFLA.

As backup deputies reached near the scene, Monday fired "numerous rounds" at them, the sheriff's office stated. The deputies returned fire, and Monday was fatally struck in the exchange.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
