Weekend (Sept. 27-29)
An East Baton Rouge Parish, La. Sheriff's deputy was killed in a cruiser crash Friday night.
Deputy Dustin Hamilton -- who was only 24 years old -- died on impact when his cruiser collided with another vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Personnel on a Naval base in Rhode Island were in mourning this weekend after a police detective died late Thursday night after being hit by a Navy vehicle earlier in the day.
Newport Naval Station Police Detective Frank J. Lema Sr. was struck by the vehicle around 1:30 p.m. and was transported Newport Hospital before being transferred to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, where he was pronounced dead around 10:15 p.m.
An El Segundo, Calif. police officer pulled a woman from a burning car moments before it burst into flames Sunday night.
Officer Armando Rodriguez was the first to arrive at the scene of a crash and can be seen on dashcam video running toward the vehicle that had crashed into a pole.
A Kansas City police officer stopped a man from jumping off an overpass early Saturday morning, and the incident was also captured by a cruiser's dashcam.
Sgt. Steven Griswold can be seen grabbing the man who was about to leap off in an attempt to take his own life.
Monday (Sept. 30)
After months of recovery, a San Bernardino County sheriff's deputy seriously wounded during a manhunt for a former LAPD officer who went on a rampage returned to work.
Deputy Alex Collins suffered severe injuries during the Feb. 12 shootout with Christopher Dorner, who fatally shot his partner, Jeremiah MacKay. A Riverside police officer and two other people were also slain during Dorner's killing spree.
The man accused in the death of a Hodgenville, Ky. police officer pleaded guilty to leading him on a fatal pursuit last year.
LaRue Circuit Judge Charles Sims III sentenced Jason Lee Avis to 15 years in prison in the Sept. 16, 2012 death of Officer Mark A. Taulbee.
A driver fled from Florida troopers during a traffic stop Orange County and dashcam video captured the Toyota Prius bursting into flames as it spun out of control.

TSA agents reported that a luggage scale with a microchip inside, along with a remote control device the man called a "detonator" were found inside Zeljko Causevic's backpack.
A 21-year-old woman detained for public intoxication died after a driver slammed into a Houston police cruiser.

Thursday (Oct. 3)
An Upton County, Texas sheriff's deputy was remembered by those who knew him after he was fatally shot at a convenience store late Wednesday night.
Deputy Billy Kennedy came in contact with a man at the Stripes Convenience Store in McCamey and multiple shots were fired. The deputy was pronounced dead at the scene and the suspect was wounded and was transported to a local hospital.
A high-speed pursuit in Washington, D.C. put the U.S. Capitol building on lockdown and ended the female driver shot dead by police.
Officials say Miriam Carey tried to breach a barrier at the White House and was traveling with a 1-year-old girl who avoided serious injury and was put in protective custody.
NYPD officers have been instructed not to pursue large biker groups due to the risk to bystanders as well as the riders themselves.
The New York Post reported that the police department doesn't have the manpower to police the riders, who get together for pop-up outings and often use unregistered bikes.
Friday (Oct. 4)
A Morehead City, N.C. police officer who was shot while training outside the department Wednesday morning remained in a medically induced coma.
Officer Garrett Hardin was shot in the sternum after a fellow officer fired a bullet during a training exercise.
Oregon State Police released dashcam video of a shootout that occurred in late August during a traffic stop.
John Van Allen can be seen approaching Trooper Matt Zistel's cruiser while firing after the stop on I-84 about 100 miles east of Portland.
