A New York police officer rescued an injured fellow officer from a fiery wreck Wednesday following a rear-end collision into a tractor trailer.

The crash happened at about 5:30 a.m. when a Lewiston police officer in a department SUV rear-ended a tractor-trailer, WIVB-TV reports. The crash left the officer unresponsive and trapped inside the vehicle, which caught fire.

Officer Cody Bruyere responded to the incident, and he, along with New York State Trooper Adam Moen, pulled the pinned officer out of the burning SUV. The officer was rushed to the hospital with a broken ankle and head injury.

The crash is under investigation.
