Houston Police Cruiser Crashes into Pool Trying to Make Traffic Stop

A Houston police officer was trying to pull over an erratic driver when his cruiser was struck by an SUV and sent through a fence before it was left dangling over the sun ledge of a backyard pool.

A Houston police officer crashed a cruiser through a fence and into a residential pool while trying to pull over a vehicle over the weekend.

The incident happened shortly after 5:30 p.m. Sunday as an officer tried to pull over a motorist driving erratically, KPRC-TV reports. While trying to stop the vehicle, the officer's cruiser was struck by an SUV crossing into the intersection.

The police cruiser was sent into a fence before hanging over a sun ledge in a backyard pool. The officer suffered a lower leg injury in the crash and was taken to the hospital.

“We did hear from the homeowners that there were people in the spa area, just prior to it or just right around the same time, but nobody was injured as far as any homeowners or individuals that lived at the house,” said Houston Fire Departemnt Senior Capt. Ross Elmblad.

The crash is under investigation.
