Maryland police used a suspect's cellphone to track a group of armed robbers during a chase that ended when the getaway van rear-ended a bus Monday.
The incident happened just after 2:30 p.m. following an armed robbery at an apartment complex in Silver Spring near the Prince George's County line, WRC-TV reports. Montgomery County police used a cellphone to track three suspects to a shopping center, and officers tried to stop the van they were in when a chase broke out.
The high-speed pursuit ended when the suspects' van slammed into the back of a bus. A police cruiser then crashed into the van, which ended up on top of the unit.
One suspect needed to be extricated from the van, and all three suspects suffered traumatic injuries, according to WRC. No officers were injured.
A gun was recovered at the scene, and the incident is under investigation.
