SYRACUSE, NY—A police-car chase ended in a fiery crash near Oakwood Cemetery Monday evening, according to 9-1-1 dispatches.
The car was being chased in connection with an ongoing investigation, Syracuse police spokesperson Lt. Matthew Malinowski confirmed Monday. There were two suspects in the car at the time, he said.
Syracuse police have refused to release details about the reason for the chase, what happened, the names of people taken into custody or whether they have been charged.
Around 5 p.m., a police officer announced that a car had failed to pull over after they attempted a traffic stop on South Salina Street, according to Onondaga County 9-1-1 Center dispatches. The officer reported there may be a gun in the car, according to the dispatches.
The officer—with lights and siren on the patrol car—pursued the vehicle and updated the dispatchers as the chase unfolded.
Seconds after the officer announced the car was traveling north on South Salina, he told dispatchers that the car turned right onto New Street and then took a quick left onto South State Street, according to dispatches.
The car took a right on East Adams Street and traveled all the way up to Ostrom Avenue, which runs alongside Thornden Park, police told dispatchers. The car traveled all the way to the intersection of Circle Road and Acorn Path before crashing.
When the car crashed, the suspects ran away toward Comstock Avenue, according to dispatches. They were quickly taken into custody, Malinowski said.
The driver of the car sustained minor injuries, Malinowski said. After the suspects got out of the car, the car burst into flames. Witnesses in the area filmed the burning car.
The entire chase spanned approximately two miles.
