Body camera footage was released of a wild chase last week involving a stolen Ohio police cruiser that ended when the patrol vehilce smashed through a home.

The pursuit happened at about 11:45 p.m. Thursday when an SUV drove recklessly and at a high rate of speed through a crash scene Dayton police were investigating, according to the department. Officers went after the vehicle, and a PIT maneuver was used to end the brief chase.

The driver jumped out of stopped vehicle and fled on foot through a residential neighborhood. Police continued to pursue the suspect, who circled back to where the SUV had stopped and sped away in a police cruiser.

The second, brief vehicle chase ended when when slammed into a home, driving straight through the residence. When an officer tried to apprehend the man, the suspect tried to steal his gun and bit him before he was subdued.

Seven officers were injured during the struggle, and six were taken to the hospital as a precaution. Two people in the home also were taken to the hospital with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening.

Dashboard camera footage from the stolen cruiser gave a first-person perspective as the vehicle crashed through the home.

After the man was taken into custody, police discovered that the suspect was wanted in multiple felonies in the area, including a homicide in Miami Township. He was taken to the hospital, and police were continuing to investigate "the numerous violent offenses committed by this individual" before charges were determined, according to the department.
