Watch Stolen Bags of Pot Fly from Truck During Mich. Police Chase

A Michigan State Police trooper needed to use a PIT maneuver to stop a stolen pickup truck that was scattering bags of pot along the roadway during a chase after a marijuana store heist.

As suspects in a marijuana store heist in March fled Michigan State Police, troopers needed to dodge bags of pot flying from the bed and window of the stolen pickup truck.

The incident happened shortly before 5 a.m. March 15 after a break-in at a marijuana shop in Bangor Township, MLive.com reports. Bay County sheriff's deputies alerted authorities to be on the lookout for a black pickup truck, and Michigan State Police troopers spotted the vehicle in Saginaw County.

A chase ensued, and the driver of the truck swerved into oncoming traffic, purposely crashing into a vehicle, according to police. The truck was able to drive away after the collision, but a trooper performed a PIT maneuver, sending the pickup and the trooper's cruiser into a ditch.

Police immediately apprehended four suspects who tried to flee on foot following the crash. A K-9 tracked and helped captured a fifth suspect.

Further investigation revealed that the truck the suspects were in had been reported stolen earlier that morning. Police also found bags of marijuana and other items from the marijuana store in the bed of the pickup.

The suspects were charged with assaulting, resisting, or obstructing police, and four of them face assault with intent to murder charges in connection with the chase.
