A Michigan police officer put his legs to the test Wednesday by running down a wanted suspect who tried to flee on a bicycle.
The officer vs. bike pursuit happened at around 9:30 p.m. when a Monroe police officer spotted a 58-year-old man wanted on felony and misdemeanor warrants, the department stated in a news release posted to social media. The officer immediately tried to apprehend the suspect, but the man grabbed a bicycle and started to pedal away.
The officer began to pursue the suspect and was able to catch up with him after a brief chase.
"A preliminary search of the individual revealed a methamphetamine smoking pipe, and subsequent field tests confirmed the presence of methamphetamine," the department stated. "At the suspect's request, the Monroe Fire Department and Monroe Community Ambulance teams promptly provided medical treatment. The suspect was subsequently evaluated at a local hospital and was taken into custody without further incident."
The suspect faces multiple new charges, including resisting and obstructing and fleeing and eluding. The man also had outstanding warrants aggravated assault with a weapon and assault and battery.
