Dashcam: Fla. Trooper Crashes into Tree During High-Speed Chase

Oct. 26, 2022
A Florida Highway Patrol trooper struck a tree while pursuing a driver who led authorities on a chase that weaved in and out of traffic and reached speeds of over 110 mph.

Dashboard camera footage captured a weaving county-wide chase over the weekend between Florida Highway Patrol and a driver that reached speeds of over 100 mph and sent one trooper crashing into a tree.

The pursuit began shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday when troopers tried to pull over a 19-year-old driver for speeding, WFTV-TV reports. The driver was able to elude authorities, but he was found street racing by another trooper.

The driver fled again, and he weaved in and out of traffic while hitting speeds of well over 110 mph. The chase eventually led to Orlando International Airport.

During the chase, a trooper struck a tree in trying to catch up to the driver—a crash that was captured on dashcam footage—and another trooper was nearly struck. The fleeing vehicle also crashed, and three people spilled out of it.

Troopers apprehended three adults who ran from the car and onto airport property. A 17-year-old in the car involved in the chase also was taken into custody.

The trooper who crashed is expected to recover. No other injuries were reported.

The 19-year-old driver faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
