A Florida police officer's dashboard camera captured the moment another vehicle slammed into the cruiser during a crash investigation last week.

The incident happened shortly after 8:50 p.m. Sept. 16 when a North Point police officer was at the scene of a previous crash along Interstate 75, the department stated in a social media post, which included dashcam footage. While the officer was out of his cruiser, another vehicle that didn't move over struck the unit, spinning it around.

"Our officer was out of his vehicle, helping people involved in a crash, when another vehicle slammed into his patrol car," the department stated.

The crash into the cruiser caused a secondary crash, WSVN-TV reports. A person was injured in that incident, and he later died from his injuries.

No other injuries were reported in connecting to the crashes. Police spokewoman Brittany Kammerer told WSVN that the officer most likely escaped being hurt because he was out of his cruiser.

"He is very, very lucky," she said. "If he had been in the vehicle, it could have been a totally different story."
