Nov. 8, 2022
During the pursuit of suspects in a stolen pickup truck, two Jacksonville sheriff's deputies collided with one another, sending one cruiser into a fence and the other into an SUV.

Body-camera footage captured a crash between Florida sheriff's deputies as they pursued trying to pursue suspects in a chase that led to multiple collisions last month.

The pursuit began at about 2 p.m. Oct. 14 when Jacksonville sheriff's detectives in the gang unit spotted two men in a pickup truck wearing full face masks in the Paxon area, First Coast News reports. The detectives continued to observe the truck until finding out that the vehicle had been stolen.

The detectives tried to stop the truck from leaving the area. Instead, a chase that headed south on interstates began.

During the high-speed chase, two marked sheriff's cruisers collided with each other, forcing the vehicles across the median. One cruiser plowed into a fence, while the other unit was in a head-on crash with an SUV.

In the body-camera footage, the officer in the collision with the SUV is seen getting out of his vehicle and helping the other driver. She tells the officer that she believes her foot is broken.

The chase between the suspects and authorities finally ended when the suspects crashed into a pole. A gun was recovered from the vehicle, and both suspects were arrested.

One suspect was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver who collided with a deputy's cruiser suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

No other injuries were reported.
