ATLANTA -- Two DeKalb County Police officers were shot Sunday night while responding to a domestic incident in southeast Atlanta. Both officers are in stable condition at Grady Hospital.
DeKalb County Police Chief Gregory Padrick said officers responded to an incident involving a 26-year-old man, Demontavious Soho, in the 2000 block of Bouldercrest Road, according to WXIA-TV.
When officers encountered Soho at the door, he opened fire on them, Padrick said. One officer returned fire, but two officers were struck.
Both officers were transported to Grady Hospital, where they remain in stable condition.
Following the shooting, Soho fled into a wooded area. Officers broadcast his description after getting a clear look at him as he ran into the woods. Law enforcement officers subsequently located and arrested him, according to Padrick.
Soho was found with a gunshot wound and was also transported to a hospital. He was reported to be in stable condition.
Padrick thanked assisting law enforcement agencies for helping take what he described as a "dangerous person" off the streets.
"We would like to ask for your thoughts and prayers for these officers as they recover," Padrick said.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been requested to investigate the shooting, following standard protocol.
