1 Person Dead after Active Shooter Report at Ark. Hospital

A person of interest was taken into custody after Sherwood police responded to reports of shots fired inside CHI St. Vincent North hospital and found an individual dead of at least one gunshot wound.

At least one person was killed and a person of interest is in custody following reports of an active shooter incident at an Arkansas hospital Wednesday.

The shooting happened at around 10 a.m. inside CHI St. Vincent North hospital in Sherwood, NBC News reports. Police responded to reports of shots fired inside the hospital, and the medical center was in lockdown when officers arrived.

Inside the hospital, police found one person who had suffered at least one fatal gunshot wound, said Sherwood Police Chief Jeff Hagar during a news conference. A person of interest also was taken into custody.

No details were released concerning the nature of the shooting, and the victim wasn't identified. The person of interest also wasn't identified, and it wasn't clear how the individual was connected to the incident.

The hospital's lockdown was lifted in the afternoon.
