Man with Shotgun Shoots Texas Officer Through Cruiser Window

Sept. 2, 2022
A Sachse police officer was struck in the head and another officer returned fire after a man walked up to the driver side of the patrol car and fired a shotgun through the window.

A man was shot by Sachse police after authorities say he fired at an officer’s head through a patrol car window early Friday morning.

Around midnight, two Sachse police officers were in the parking lot of Medpost Urgent Care in the 7700 block of State Highway 78, near Woodbridge Parkway, when police say a man walked up to the driver side of the police vehicle and fired a shotgun through the window. The man was not identified.

The officer in the driver’s seat was struck in the head “from the shotgun blast,” police said.

The second officer returned fire, striking the man, according to police.

The man and two officers were taken to the hospital. Neither officer suffered life-threatening injuries, while the man underwent surgery, police said. His condition was unknown.

The shooting is under investigation by the Texas Rangers, and no additional information was immediately available.

The Texas Rangers were also investigating an incident Friday in which Rockwall police fatally shot a man suspected of a stabbing and kidnapping in Dallas.
