An Uber driver helped Houston police chasing a suspect on foot by giving two officers in a ride as they pursued the man earlier this month.

The unusual pursuit happened at about 12:30 a.m. Aug. 8 when police responded to a call concerning a man accused of threatening to kill a woman at an apartment complex pool, KHOU-TV reports. The suspect was initially detained, but he escaped and fled on foot.

Officers began chasing him, but they couldn't keep up. That's when the officers approached Uber driver Anthony Baines, who was stopped at an intersection as the shirtles, shoeless suspect ran by.

"I didn’t know what was going on. I was just doing as I was told, and just be as helpful as possible," Baines told KHOU, adding that the suspect was "the fastest guy I’ve ever seen in my life"

Baines' dashboard camera captured the brief pursuit. But even though the officers had some automobile assistance, they weren't able to catch the suspect.

Although Baines didn't receive a fare or good review for his help—"I need a tip next time," he told KHOU—he said helped out because it was the right thing to. Much of that comes from his military background.

"I just felt like it was my responsibility to just help in every way I could," Baines said. "That’s what I did in the Army, and so I guess I had the privilege to serve as well as a civilian."
