Video Shows Utah Police K-9 Break Legs in Serious Fall From Overpass
What to Know
- Newly released video shows Park City police K-9 suffering serious injuries after jumping from an overpass during a response to a suspicious package investigation.
- The K-9, Bruno, and his handler were on an overpass above the Interstate 80 and Highway 40 interchange when the dog suddenly went over the side and fell to the roadway below.
- Bruno broke both legs and injured his jaw in the fall, but an investigation found department policies were followed, and the K-9 continues recovering at home.
"As this video shows, this was an unfortunate incident that occurred during a serious law enforcement response," Chief Wade Carpenter said in a statement. "Bruno is more than a police K-9. He's a partner, a companion, and part of our police family. From the moment he was injured, (Bruno's handler) and fellow first responders did everything they could to comfort Bruno and get him the care he needed. We're grateful for the outpouring of support for Bruno and his handler as he continues to recover."
It's unclear what led Bruno to jump from overpass. An investigation of the incident found that the department tactics and policies were followed.
Bruno continues to recover at home.
