California police officers fought through flames and smoke to save an injured driver from a burning vehicle following a crash early Thursday.
The single-car crash happened around 2 a.m. in Alhambra, setting the vehicle on fire, the Alhambra Police Department stated in a news release. Once officers reached the scene, they quickly navigated their way through the fire to reach the driver and walk him to safety while firefighters put out the blaze.
The driver was taken to the hospital with injuries that weren't life-threatening. According to police, he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, and a blood sample was taken.
One of the rescuing officers suffered smoke inhalation while saving the driver. The officer was taken to the hospital and has been released.
