Houston police are investigating the death of a small-town Texas officer last week as a homicide.

Taft Police Officer Daniel Trujillo was found dead in his Houston apartment Friday, according to the department. His body was found with multiple gunshot wounds, and it's unclear when he had been shot, KTRK-TV reports.

Trujillo had served with the Taft Police Department for three years. He was only one of five officers with the department.

Taft is a tiny town, and Trujillo is one of just five officers listed on the department's website.

"During his time with our department, he served our community with dedication and commitment, and his loss is deeply felt by those who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him," the department stated.

"We are grateful for Officer Trujillo’s three years of service to the Taft community," the department added. "His dedication, service, and the memories shared with his fellow officers will not be forgotten."

Houston police haven't identified any suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.
