A Marlboro County, S.C. Sheriff's deputy died Saturday morning from injuries sustained in a crash last week while he was on duty.

Deputy Delton "Del" Daniels, 22, was a passenger in a patrol SUV driven by Deputy Garry Deaver on July 20 when it ran off the road and into a ditch, causing the vehicle to overturn, according to WPDE-TV.

Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown said that Daniels was transported to a hospital in Florence where he was pronounced dead 11 days later.

Cpl. Sonny Collins told the news station that it was raining at the time of the crash and Deaver is shown to be at fault. He has not been cited in the crash.

Daniels, who was entering his first week on the job, also worked with the Bennettsville City Fire Department.

This has been a very emotional and heartbreaking ordeal we have all experienced," Sheriff Fred Knight said in a statement. "This young man brought a lot of joy to his family, friends and co-workers. I urge everyone to pull together as a team and continue to pray and help each other as the days go by."

Funeral arrangements are pending.
