Blount County Sheriff’s Deputy Justin Mowery, 30, was killed in a single-vehicle crash Sunday while on patrol.

Sheriff James Lee Berrong said the agency and Tennessee Highway Patrol were investigating to determine what caused the crash.

Mowery, who joined the agency in 2020, was a member of the sheriff’s office SWAT team and previously worked as a security officer at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
