S.C. Deputy Dies from Injuries in Head-On Collision while On Duty
Florence County Sheriff's Deputy Nathaniel "Nate" Ansay had been with the agency since October 2023, and "he loved being a deputy," said Sheriff T.J. Joye.
A Hamilton County sheriff's deputy was conducting traffic control when he was struck by a father who was "very distraught" after watching footage of the fatal shooting of his son by police.
A South Carolina deputy died Tuesday from injuries he suffered in a head-on collision.
Florence County Sheriff's Deputy Nathaniel Ansay was on-duty and traveling in Effingham shortly before 4:30 p.m. when the crash with an SUV happened, WYFF-TV reports. Details concerning the collision weren't immediately released.
Ansay, as well as the SUV's driver, were rushed to the hospital, where Ansay was later pronounced dead.
"Nate never met a stranger and always had a huge smile on his face," Sheriff T.J. Joye said in a statement. "He told me often how much he loved being a deputy. He will be greatly missed."
Ansay, 24, had been with the agency since October 2023.
