A Texas police officer and a sheriff's deputy were nearly struck over the weekend when a passing motorist crashed into a cruiser, sending the vehicle at the first responders.

Body camera footage released by the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office captured the close call. The incident happened around 3:15 a.m. Sunday when a deputy and a Forney police officer were conducting a traffic stop.

In the footage, another vehicle slammed into a cruiser parked on the side of the roadway. Both the motorist and the struck vehicle narrowly miss an officer and a deputy.

"This incident serves as an important reminder that traffic stops, crash scenes, and roadside investigations are among the most dangerous situations first responders face," the sheriff's office stated in a social media post, which included the bodycam footage. "Every time an emergency vehicle is stopped on the shoulder, the men and women serving our community are only feet away from passing traffic."
