An accused distracted driver narrowly missed a Texas police officer conducting a traffic stop last month, slamming into the stopped vehicle.

The incident happened just before 9 a.m. July 25 after an El Paso police officer on a motorcycle had pulled over a vehilce along Interstate 10, the department stated in a social media that included body camera footage. During the stop, an alleged distracted driver "failed to control their speed" and rear-ended the stopped vehicle.

In the body camera footage, the officer is seen taking the stopped driver's license seconds before the crash happens. The second vehicle misses the officer, but the impact of the crash sent the stopped vehicle about 500 feet along the shoulder.

Although not struck, the officer was injured in the incident. The stopped driver was taken to the hospital with injuries.
