CLAYTON, Indiana -- An officer-involved shooting occurred Wednesday as the Plainfield Police Department pursued a suspect connected to a reported Chase Bank robbery one day earlier.
The shooting took place during a follow-up investigation into the April 21 robbery at a Chase Bank in Plainfield. Officers, assisted by additional law enforcement agencies, attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by the suspect. According to Plainfield Police, the individual failed to comply, exited the vehicle, and fled on foot while armed.
During the ensuing encounter, officers discharged their weapons, striking the suspect. Officers immediately rendered medical aid before the individual was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Police said the suspect has been identified and confirmed that no additional suspects are outstanding. No officers or civilians were injured during the incident. Authorities indicated the scene remained active as of the latest update.
In accordance with department policy, the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
