Law enforcement officers shot and killed a bank robbery suspect after a pursuit ended in San Bernardino on Thursday afternoon, June 2, authorities said.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department received a call about an attempted burglary at a bank in Grand Terrace around 3:30 p.m., said Gloria Huerta, spokeswoman for the Sheriff's Department. Shortly after, Colton Police Department officers were alerted to a robbery at the Chase Bank located at 2005 E Washington St. in Colton, and located the suspect's car and a pursuit ensued, Huerta said.

The pursuit ended in the area of 5th and D streets in San Bernardino, Huerta said.

Authorities tried to conduct a traffic stop when the suspect produced a rifle and fired at the officers, Huerta said. The officers returned fire, killing the suspect, she said.

It wasn't immediately clear which agency's officers fired at the man.

A flurry of at least 20 gunshots could be heard firing during what appeared to be a standoff between officers and the suspect, according to video footage obtained by RMG News.

The San Bernardino Police Department also got involved around 4:14 p.m. to help the Sheriff's Department and Colton Police Department with the pursuit, said Sgt. Equino Thomas, spokesman for San Bernardino police.

"A couple" of people were injured as a result of the incident, Thomas said, but it wasn't immediately clear who was was injured and what their conditions were.

It wasn't immediately clear if any officers were injured in the incident.

Whether or not the rifle was recovered that the suspect reportedly had was not immediately clear.

The Sheriff's Department was investigating the incident, Thomas said.
