Texas Police Officer Fatally Shot Following Vehicle Chase

A Texas police officer was killed in a shooting early Wednesday during an hourslong chase invovling multiple law enforcement agencies.
The incident that led to the shooting began when Cameron County sheriff's deputies and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers were chasing a vehicle that failed to pull over for a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon in South Padre Island, KGBT-TV reports. The long pursuit eventually ended at a gas station, and San Benito Police Lt. M, according to KRGV-TV.
The officer was identified as Lt. Milton Resendez in a post on the city's Facebook page. Resendez was a 27-year veteran with the department, and it's believed that he is the first San Benito police officer to die in the line of duty, according to myRGV.com.
"Texas grieves with the family and loved ones of the San Benito Police Officer killed in the line of duty last night," Gov. Greg Abbott stated in a social media post.
Two men were arrested in the shooting, and authorities are working on charges for them.
