Leica Geosystems, industry leader in measurement technology and a Badge of Honor Annual Partner of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, has formally renewed its initiative to support the organization. First launched in October 2014, the Leica Geosystems initiative makes an annual donation to the Memorial Fund based on the sale of all 3D imaging laser scanners, professional laser scanners, multistations, total stations, GNSS instruments, unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), handheld distance measurement tools, software and other products to the law enforcement community.

Founded in 1984, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund is a nonprofit organization dedicated to telling the story of American law enforcement, honoring the fallen and making it safer for those who serve. Headquartered in Washington, DC, the Memorial Fund built and maintains the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, the nation’s monument to law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. The Memorial Fund also maintains the largest, most comprehensive database of line-of-duty officer fatality data, conducts research into officer fatality trends and issues, and serves as an information clearinghouse for officer safety. In April 2016, the organization began construction on the new National Law Enforcement Museum, adjacent to the Memorial in Washington, DC. The Museum is slated to open in the fall of 2018 and will be the world's most comprehensive museum focusing on law enforcement through high-tech, interactive exhibitions, historical artifacts and extensive educational programming.

Leica Geosystems, the world leader in 3D laser scanning solutions for public safety applications, is known for its high precision, excellent quality and reliability, and streamlined workflows, as well as outstanding customer service. Recent innovations with transformative applications in public safety include the BLK360 imaging laser scanner, which offers simple push-button operation in a compact design; the GS18 T, an extremely fast GNSS RTK rover that is immune to magnetic disturbances and doesn’t require leveling; the Pegasus:Backpack, a wearable reality capture sensor platform that collects georeferenced panoramic images synced to point clouds for easy and complete scene documentation; and the ScanStation P50, a long-range professional 3D laser scanner that collects high-quality, high-accuracy data at a range of more than 1 km. The continued donations from Leica Geosystems will help the Memorial Fund launch the Museum, collect and preserve historical law enforcement artifacts, develop insightful programming, and maintain the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

“More than 900,000 sworn law enforcement officers currently serve in the United States. Many of these men and women put their lives on the line every day, and they deserve our gratitude and respect,” said Chuck Coiner, manager of the Leica Geosystems Public Safety Group. “The Memorial Fund plays a valuable role in recognizing their contribution and sacrifice. We are honored to be able to continue our support of this worthy cause.”
