An Arizona police SUV was washed away by rapid floodwaters while conducting a search earlier this month.

Shortly before 1:15 p.m. July 18, Nogales police responded to a report of a woman who was possibly caught in flooding that swept her into a flood control wash just across the border in Mexico, KVOA-TV reports. But when officers reached the flood control channel, they found no water flowing through it and found no evidence of a woman in distress.

During the search, however, an officer drove into the flood control channel, and his cruiser became stuck in the wet ground. Officers tried to free the vehicle, but they stopped when they received reports of raging floodwaters rushing through the channel.

The water washed the SUV away, and the cruiser ended up near a waste transfer station. No one was injured in the incident.

Police recovered the cruiser, and per department policy, the officer has been placed on administrative leave during the investigation of the incident.
