A deputy was injured over the weekend when he was struck with his own cruiser, which was stolen by a suspect who tried to steal an ATM from a Chicago business.

The incident happened at about 7:15 a.m. Saturday when four suspects tried to steal an ATM from inside a gas station in Chicago's Gage Park neighborhood, WGN-TV reports. They used tools for several minutes to try to dislodge the machine, but they were unsuccessful.

When the suspects tried to flee the scene in an SUV, their vehicle crashed into another vehicle. Police took the suspects into custody, and three guns were recovered.

One of the suspects tried to escape by pushing an assisting Cook County sheriff's deputy out of the way and jumping into the law enforcement officer's cruiser. When the deputy tried to pull the suspect out of the cruiser, he was struck as the vehicle sped away.

The suspect was finally apprehended by Illinois State Police on the Dan Ryan Expressway.

The deputy suffered minor injuries in the incident. He was taken to the hospital and released.
