Police from multiple Florida law enforcement agencies arrested four retail theft suspects—including two who tried to flee by jumping off an overpass—following a chase involving a stolen U-Haul van Thursday.
The incident happened when Homestead police were contacted concerning people stealing items at a Kohl's store, WPLG-TV reports. Officers arrived at the scene as the suspects were exiting the store through a security door and into a U-Haul van that had been stolen in Broward County.
As the suspects drove out of the parking lot, they rammed a police cruiser and headed on the Turnpike. Florida Highway Patrol troopers began pursuing the suspects, and Hialeah and Miami-Dade police joined the chase.
Officers executed several PIT maneuvers before they were finally able to stop the van. Police then surrounded the vehicle and began apprehending suspects.
Two of the suspects tried to escape authorities by jumping off an overpass. Footage from a news helicopter shows police pulling up one suspect as he dangled from the overpass.
No one was seriously injured during the incident.
