A Texas police officer was injured Sunday when he was dragged by a stolen vehicle suspect who tried to flee in a cruiser.
The incident happened just after 7 p.m. as Seagoville police were pursuing a suspect—later identified as Brandon Boothe, 36—pickup truck that had been reported stolen, WFAA-TV reports. The chase ended when Boothe collided with another vehicle at a low speed.
Boothe fled the stolen vehicle, and an officer deployed a Taser, which was unsuccessful in stopping the suspect. That's when Boothe jumped into a cruiser.
An officer followed him into the vehicle, and a struggle ensued. Boothe put the cruiser into drive and struck the stolen pickup.
Boothe then put the cruiser in reverse, dragging the officer, who eventually was able to stop the vehicle. But Boothe was able to put the cruiser in drive again, and the officer was dragged for about two minutes as he continued to struggle with the suspect.
Finally, another officer was able to deploy a Taser and subdue Boothe. He was arrested, and two handguns and ammunition were found in the stolen pickup.
The officer was treated at the scene for minor facial and leg injuries.
