Miami-Dade Police Officer Airlifted to Hospital after Crash

A Miami-Dade police officer was airlifted to the hospital following a collision with a pickup truck early Monday.

The incident happened as the officer was responding to a call in Miami Lakes, WTVJ-TV reports. That's when a pickup truck drove through a red light and struck the officer's cruiser.

Both the cruiser and the pickup truck sustained major damage in the crash. The crash trapped the officer inside the cruiser, and firefighters needed to extricate him from the wreckage.

The officer was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition. His condition was upgraded to stable, and he was later released. 

The pickup driver suffered only minor injuries in the crash.
