Two people were arrested after a Fort Worth police chase ended in a crash in Haltom City Tuesday morning, authorities say.
In a news conference Tuesday, Fort Worth police Chief Neil Noakes said a license plate camera alerted officers to a stolen vehicle about 10:48 a.m. When they found the vehicle and attempted to stop it, the driver, an unidentified woman, took off.
During the pursuit, Noakes said an unidentified man fired multiple shots at officers before the woman crashed into a trailer near the intersection of Denton Highway and Northeast Loop 820. Noakes said the officers did not return fire.
After the crash, the man and woman ran from the car but were taken into custody with “minimal effort,” Noakes said.
The woman faces charges of evading arrest and unauthorized use of a vehicle, Noakes said. The man was arrested on three outstanding felony warrants — two for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one for possession of a firearm by a felon.
The man will face additional charges related to Tuesday’s pursuit, Noakes said.
“The suspect who fired at the officers was someone we have been searching for as part of our violent crime initiative,” Noakes said. “Because of the technology we have with the FLOCK cameras, we were able to locate the vehicle that he was in and take him into custody, but not before officers were shot at.”
The driver of the trailer was uninjured, while a passenger was taken to the hospital, but deemed stable.
The investigation is ongoing.
