A runaway horse buggy collided with the cruiser of an Ohio deputy trying to stop it over the weekend.
The incident happened shortly after 2:40 a.m. Saturday after Ashtabula County Sheriff's Deputy Mike Talbert tried to pull over a horse buggy in Orwell, WJW-TV reports. Talbert was responding to reports of a buggy traveling erratically along the road, and he saw that the driver appeared to be asleep, with a beer can sitting next to him.
The deputy's body camera captured the call as Talbert pursued the buggy and tried to stop it. Eventually, he drove his cruiser in front of the buggy.
“I have it stopped,” Talbert said. “Nope, disregard, he just rammed it into my car.”
Finally, the driver woke up, and he took control of the buggy. The driver suffered a minor injury in the incident, and the horse and deputy were unharmed.
Talbert arrested the driver for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Sheriff William Niemi praised his deputy for stopping the horse without anyone suffering serious injures.
