Ga. Trooper Pulled from Partially Submerged Overturned Cruiser
- Waycross police officers rescued a Georgia State Patrol trooper after his cruiser became partially submerged in a rollover crash when he executed a PIT maneuver during a chase.
A Sandwich police officer was extricated from his cruiser and hospitalized after a rollover crash in a street intersection Thursday morning, the Sandwich Police Department said.
At around 9:15 a.m., a police cruiser was responding to a reported overdose in East Sandwich and the officer turned on the cruiser’s lights and sirens, the department said in a statement.
The cruiser was driving through Cotuit Road and Quaker Meeting House Road when it was struck by another car, which caused the cruiser to roll over, police said.
Sandwich firefighters arrived and were able to get the officer out of the cruiser before he was taken to Cape Cod Hospital, the department said. The extent of his injuries is unclear.
The other driver was evaluated by firefighters and was not hurt or hospitalized, police said.
The northbound side of Quaker Meeting House to Cotuit Road was closed to allow the Accident Reconstruction unit and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department’s Criminal Investigations Officers to investigate.
