Dallas Police Officer Seriously Injured Responding to Swatting Call
Dallas police were on their way to a false report of a shooting when a cruiser collided with a civilian vehicle at an intersection, sending an officer and the driver of the other car to the hospital.
To combat and prevent “swatting” threats, law enforcement fights a two-front battle, and a rash of these calls targeting schools after the Nashville mass shooting shows how insidious the problem is.
A Dallas police officer was seriously injured early Friday in a cruiser crash while responding to a swatting call.
The incident happened just before 5 a.m. as two cruisers were responding to a call about a shooting, KDFW-TV reports. When one of the cruisers reached an intersection, it collided with a civilian car.
An officer suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital. The driver of the civilian car also was hospitalized, but both people are expected to recover from their injuries.
It was later determined that the original shooting call had been a swatting incident. Investigators are trying to ID a suspect in the case, and authorities confirmed that similar calls had occurred at the same location.
