Watch Test Drive Turn into Fla. Highway Patrol Chase with Big Splash

May 21, 2024
Dashboard camera footage captured a woman speeding off during a test drive at a Miami dealership before trying to escape Florida Highway Patrol troopers by jumping into a retention pond.

A 27-year-old woman was arrested after she tried to elude Florida troopers when she tried to take off with a new during a test drive earlier this month.

The incident happened May 9 when Melina Logan, of North Carolina, took a 2024 Honda Civic for a test drive from a dealership in Miami, WSVN-TV reports. After the sales representative exited the vehicle, Logan sped off, and the Florida Highway Patrol was contacted.

In dashboard camera footage from the incident, troopers pursued Logan as she drove erratically along the interstate, weaving in and out of traffic. During the chase, she crashed into a cruiser and other vehicles, as well as an interstate side wall

Eventually, Logan came to a stop, and she tried to escape authorities by climbing out of her vehicle's passenger window and jumped into a retention pond. At first, authorities tried to talk Logan into swimming back to shore on her own before they dove in after her when she began struggling in the water.

Once back on land, she was taken into custody. During her arrest, she allegedly scratched a trooper and tried to push another underwater.

Logan was charged with battery of an officer and grand theft. She was being held on $5,000 bond.
