A woman who couldn't escape the Florida Highway Patrol in a wild chase last week that reached speeds of up to 145 mph tried unsuccessfully to use her feet to outrun troopers in a pursuit that was captured by a dashboard camera.
The incident happened Thursday when troopers tried to stop a BMW traveling recklessly along Interstate 75 in Fort Myers, WOFL-TV reports. The vehicle's driver was clocked going over 145 mph, and her speed dropped to around 120 mph when she exited the interstate onto a state road to try to escape police.
A trooper executed a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle, sending the BMW's bumper flying into the air. Once the BMW came to a stop, the driver jumped out of the car and fled on foot. A passenger also exited the vehicle, but he gave himself up to police.
Troopers were able to apprehend the driver, who was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, fleeing and eluding law enforcement, reckless driving and other counts.
