A man was fatally shot earlier this month after he allegedly opened fire on Milwaukee police following a vehicle pursuit tied to a homicide investigation.
The shooting happened just before 5 p.m. April 13 when police were trying to locate a vehicle connected to a homicide and a separate shots-fired incident, the department stated in a news release. Officers spotted the vehicle and tried to execute a traffic stop, but the driver fled, kicking off a chase.
The pursuit eventually ended when the vehicle crashed. After the crash, the 31-year-old suspect exited his vehicle and began shooting.
Officers returned fire, and the suspect was struck during the exchange. The suspect was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.
The shooting was captured on multiple body cameras, and the footage was released Tuesday.
Firearms were recovered from the scene of the shooting. Another person involved in the crash also was taken to the hospital.
The incident is under investigation.
