The San Pablo police officer's 12-year-old daughter captured the heroic rescue as her dad stopped to help a distressed woman on the side of a road with a choking child.
A cellphone video captured an off-duty California police officer saving the life of a choking baby.
San Pablo Officer Gilbert Troche was driving home with his wife and kids Aug. 15 when he spotted a mother outside her car on the side of the road, KTVU-TV reports. The woman was holding her baby and appeared distraught, according to Troche.
"Oh my god! He's choking!" Troche's 12-year-old daughter is heard yelling as she recorded the rescue on her cellphone.
Troche, who has been with the San Pablo police department since 2013, quickly moved to help the mother, but admitted that he was "almost as scared as she was at the time." The woman handed the officer the baby, whose face had turned blue.
Eventually, the officer and the mother were able to get the child breathing again.
